Ambassador

Born on 9 July 1970 at Vranov nad Topľou, Slovakia

Studied at the Faculty of International Relations of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations (1988-1993, M.A. cum laude) and the Faculty of Political Science and International Relations of Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica (2007-2008, PhDr.). MIT University in Skopje awarded him the degree of Dr. h. c. in 2012.

He has been in the diplomatic service since 1993, with the rank of Ambassador since 2009.

He started his career at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Territorial Department of Western Europe and North America (1993-1994, 1998). He was Adviser to the Director General of the Bilateral Cooperation Section (1998-2000). In the European Affairs Section in the early years of Slovakia's EU membership, he held various positions - from Head of Unit in the EU External Relations Department (2004), Head of Unit for Relations with the Parliament and Personnel Affairs of the EU Institutions and Deputy Director of the Department of Internal Affairs and EU Institutions (2004-2005), Director of this Department (2005-2009) to Director General of the European Affairs Section (2008). In 2017 - 2020, he was the Director of the Department for Political and Security Issues of the Task Force of the Slovak OSCE Chairmanship. He held the post of Ambassador with Special Mission for the Eastern Partnership in 2020 - 2021. From the beginning of the Russian aggression in Ukraine in February 2022 until his appointment as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Slovak Republic to the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Kyrgyz Republic, based in Nur-Sultan in July 2022, he led the Task Force Ukraine team at the Ministry.

From 1994 to 1998 he was posted to the Slovak Embassy in Stockholm as Ambassadorial Attaché, since 1997 as Deputy Head of Mission and Consul. From 2000 to 2004 he served at the Slovak Embassy in Pretoria as 1st Secretary, Deputy Head of Mission and Consul. In 2009, he established the Slovak Embassy in Skopje, which he headed until 2013 as chargé d'affaires en pied. In 2013, he established the Slovak Embassy in Chisinau, where he served as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Slovak Republic to the Republic of Moldova until 2017.

On September 2, 2022, he presented his credentials to the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, K. Tokayev.
